Extract from Amsterdam letter on early peace terms

An extract dated May 26 from Amsterdam reports preliminary articles signed by Count Kaunitz for the Empress Queen and similar moves by de La Chavannes and Marquis de Sotto Major for Sardinia and Spain. It notes that the German, Italian, and British plenipotentiaries prepared to act on return to Versailles while public opinion accepts terms. Also included are conjectures from The Hague about reasons for rapid preliminaries, including Prussia's stance, possible separate peace talks, and Cumberland’s military review. The item then shifts to varied Dublin and London items, including a duel, new appointments, court cases, noble titles, and naval movements with several ships and prizes seized or released, ending with civilian feats and a horse race.
