Captain reports convoy near Calvi with Austrian troops
Yesterday a mail from Leghorn dated May 4 reports the captain of an English ship arriving from London with corn. He says that on the first of the month he met off Calvi a convoy from Savona carrying Austrian and Piedmontese troops, including fifteen barks, a bilander, and two English men of war, with hopes to land near Calvi that evening. An express from Savona on May 3 described a French attack on Campo Freddo and a stout defense by Austrian troops occupying the post as the French pressed the assault.
