The Proprietors of the General Post express grateful thanks to the public for continued support and pledge to improve the paper. They seek encouragement, care in gathering news, and a wide variety of lawful essays and advertisements to best serve readers and promote manufacturing and trade interests.
A collection of scattered dated items From Genoa and Smyrna letters to Paris court remarks and bankruptcy notices. Sailings include Michy Betsey Planter Wolf and Porter ships to Newfoundland Cadiz Antigua and Maryland with winds noted as NNE and NTE plus the usual merchant and broker appearances at Guildhall.
A sprawling entry lists ships arriving at Bristol London and Clyde ports with names and origins from Georgia South Carolina Virginia New York Maryland Barbados madeira Jamaica and Africa plus a lengthy London parliamentary and civic record describing the Lord Chancellor and Lord Rochford’s conference and potential royal moves to Richmond during Queen Charlotte’s lying in spell, the Falkland question and Port Egmont dispute, Westminster records and a Wilkes letter amid East Indies famine news and a London court case involving Mr Miller the murdered mate and other assorted notices and accidents.
Notice reports the theft of a five year old horse from Henry Chaplain near Har Essex. The horse description includes a white mark on the face and a white upp of three footlocks. Reward offered for information leading to conviction of the thief or recovery of the horse and gear including bridles and saddles.
Auction announced by Mr William Pitt for three lets from the late Rev Carswell Winners estate in Bray andc Berks. Includes two fishery plots with dwelling and outbuildings, 16 acres of common field land near the tenant Thomas Dean at 205 per acre, and a 12 acre elm might area leased to Thomas Daley. Properties lie near Maidenhead and Windsor, with inquiry directed to Mr Pitt at Maidenhead or Mr Jaba Davis at Windsor.
