Smugglers clash with guards near Grenoble in March report

Paris dispatch notes that a gang of smugglers attacked guards near Dasphiny and Grenoble, killing about 30, mostly soldiers, and seizing tobacco and other goods. Separate items report rulers approving a Knights of the Crown troop at St Quintin, Danube floods causing famine and bank ruptions, and city notices on police, marriages, and deaths.

Edinburgh March 17 reports that despite Continental Congress resolutions, ships from Burrowstouners with goods reached South Carolina and the consignments were bought by locals at elevated prices.

Robbery and assault in Cornwall leave Parker near death

In Tregony Cornwall on a March Saturday night three armed men robbed Mr Parker of money and a gold watch then beat him over the head with pistol butts tied his hands and feet and dumped him in a dry ditch. He lay about 24 hours before release with a fractured skull and poor prognosis. Newcastle reports a Berwick duel left an officer with a grazing wound to the breast from a ball in a prior incident.
