Thunderstorm Allows Prisoner to Speak Again in Newgate
Cray a long imprisoned thief in Newgate was struck dumb during a February Sunday washing incident when a violent thunderstorm startled him, but his speech and senses later returned. In Reading this day the Mayor of Windsor's overseer charged pauper John Bye with causing How ard, another pauper, to be placed in the Workhouse bridewell where he starved on bread and water from February 5 until his death, conjectured from harsh treatment. The bridewell keeper was later jailed following a coroner’s inquest.

Naval and crime items from early 18th century notices
In the Mediterranean the French and Spanish fleets total fifteen capital ships, excluding frigates and smaller craft. The Good Intent, Woodhill, from Honduras to London, ran ashore near South Foreland, later to Ramsgate after Deal boats aided. Notable tales include Capt Tyger Roche aboard the Huntington Indiaman at Joanna, and a humorous Sir John Rushout anecdote about a highwayman. Reports cover a Dover magistrate detaining a murderer, sentences at Reading and Oxford offices, thefts at Lincoln's Inn gardens, a church livings appointment, births marriages and deaths, ship command changes, and various stock and financial listings.
