Robbery on the Highway and London Pursuit
A gentleman and lady in a post-chaise were robbed between Dartford and Gravesend by two highwaymen. The thief took twenty five guineas from the man and a gold watch from the woman. The suspect fled to Gravesend, then London by the machine. Sir John Fielding intervened and the horse was seized. The robber, found with a polished iron candlerick, was detained. Also reported is Mrs Godfrey’s death after attempting boiling water, and the Two Friends sailing from Hall for Fort Cumberland with emigrants. Leeds reports coiners debasing guineas of George II.
