Death of a rider after deserting master in Oxendon
An unnamed rider staying at the George inn Oxendon died as his dejection grew. The landlord traced him to Coventry where Mr E found him with gold and banknotes and memoranda. The rider had begun his journey in April and had deserted his master several weeks earlier. It is believed guilt over losing money at Newmarket races led to his demise.
