Emigrant Ship Sails From Lewis Islands to America

In Edinburgh a report notes that on the 22d of last month between 17 and 800 people from the Lewis Islands departed Stornoway for America. They complained of oppression at home and stated it forced them to seek a new life abroad.

Willful murder in Harpenden parish case at inquest

Coroner's inquest reports Grace Westcott Taylor found murdered in her own home. Witnesses recount a long history of ill treatment by a woman from the parish who had threatened to kill her and, during questioning, jurors returned a verdict of wilful murder by person or persons unknown. The suspect was jailed to await further action at the next assizes.
