A long argumentative letter discusses Patriotism and public opinion, criticizing party politics and opportunism. It questions rulers and officeholders, warns against placemen, and contrasts genuine national prosperity with self-serving ambition. It weaves in historical anecdotes and personal rhetoric about governance and public virtue.
A fragmented manuscript notes Lord Gower’s election to a Knight of the Garter with four knights present besides the Sovereign. It recalls a prior six Companion requirement and mentions arrangements, observers, and a messenger moving through the city to ensure observance amid religious tensions and ceremonial logistics.
The text presents garbled phrases about mutual sympathy and character, mentioning a duchess and jubilee in a stream of incomplete lines. It remains largely unreadable, with no clear events, dates, or identifiable figures to anchor a concise summary.
A catalog note lists several works with prices: The Farmer's Letters to the People of England in 2 volumes with cuts priced at 105.6d in boards. A Six Weeks Tour to the Southern Counties of England and Wales priced at 5s 3d in boards. The Farmer's Guide in Hising and Stocking a Farr in 2 volumes with cuts priced at 108.6d in boards.
