Fragmented verse mourns fame’s futility and moral decline. laments the vanity of celebrated heroes, from Caesar to Cromwell, as mortality ends their glory and worldly triumphs fade. The speaker questions the pursuit of wealth, status, and power, urging virtue over vainglory.
