Maritime names drift through a fragmentary shipping list

A garbled OCR passage presents a long catalog of names and origins, mentioning ships, captains, and ports such as London Leghorn Glasgow Jamaica Portsmouth Grenada Dublin Barbadoes Riga Liverpool Madeira and Hamburg. The text lacks coherent narrative beyond these scattered proper nouns and routes.

Earl of March named Lord High Commissioner to Scotland

The Earl of March was appointed Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland and First Lord Commissioner of Police in Scotland in place of the late Lord Cathcart. The afternoon’s dispatches from Charles Town, dated June 27, describe a British council of war near Charleston and preparations to land troops, silencing batteries, and a failed landing due to a need to join forces with Howe. Casualties were reported among sailors and army officers, with mentions of ships burnt and a privateer captured. Additional letters from Philadelphia, St. John’s Antigua, and Madrid discuss naval actions, privateers, and European diplomatic tensions affecting the American theater.
