Lands overflowed by Elbe floods affect Brandenburgh villages

From the London Gazette May 1 report that forty six villages in Brandenburgh were flooded as the Upper Elbe broke three dykes, forcing nobility to seek safety in garrets for days. The disaster worsened poverty, with rising food prices and peasant hardship, while local brokers and merchants in London and Manchester prepare notices and appearances at Guildhall and Royal Oak. A Banff incident ends with the linen manufacturer William Robertson killed and two officers imprisoned.

Court upholds postmaster letter delivery ruling in Gloucester

In Gloucester on Friday last the Court of King's Bench ruled for plaintiff Mr Stock against Gabriel Harris the Postmaster. The decision states that post towns must deliver letters to the addressees with only the legal postage as gratuity, and that delivery limits are determined by town customs. Other items note deaths near Andover, a Trowbridge murder suspicion, and multiple ship arrivals and departures across various ports.
