The Gazette argues for a municipal electric car line to connect Macleod’s business district with the Crows Nest railway station. It urges the town council to act, proposing financing by loan and calling a public meeting to gauge ratepayer views, warning that delay harms development.
Mr C G Geddes aged rancher in Pincher Creek district died at his home on Tuesday after a serious illness. His remains were brought to Macleod by train and a brief service held at Christ Church before the body went to Ottawa by rail. He leaves a widow and one daughter who had gone to Ottawa for schooling. The district mourns a popular man with many friends. The note records council accounts and by laws passed, appointing officers and salaries for 1898, and adjourns after routine business.
Mr Justice Scot sentenced Arthur Collyns at Calgary on Saturday after Regina en banc appeal dismissed. The judge cited district catle stealing as a reason to make an example and ordered confinement at Manitoba penitentiary for two years and nine months. An appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada is noted.
A regular meeting of the Town A Council was held on Monday evening the 21st inst. The brief notes indicate council members present and routine proceedings, with standard motions and approvals expected for the period.
The ordinance requires that a house believed infected display a four by six inch notice at every outer door naming the disease. Failure to comply is an offence with fines up to ten dollars and associated costs of prosecution.
Macleod general hospital directors thank donors for various items including reading matter, eggs, jelly, fruit, soup, sacks of potatoes, and furnishings.
