Town urged to back electric railway and light plan

Cattle Shipping in Western District Totals Near 600000

figures from the Western Stock Growers Association show 18,060 cattle shipped in 1898 from the district between Maple Creek and the Rockies. southern Alberta supplied 16,920 head and western Assiniboia 7,140, with principal buyers listed in both regions. with cattle averaged at $33, the revenue nears $600,000 despite a not entirely strong season for cattle.

Bridges to Be Pushed to Completion Near Kootenai River

Ex mayor Grady, after discussion with J H Ross, reports that two bridges over the Kootenai River south of town will be completed with most materials already on site. Willow Creek bridge work will start once frost ends, with tenders possible and material secured. The area’s past drownings at this ford cast a shadow over all three crossings.

Town Council Debates Square Closure and Finance Audit

Monday council meeting chaired by Mayor Cowdry discusses closing the square with mixed views from ratepayers and councillors. The Finance committee is ordered to obtain 1898 books and auditors report, with adjournment to Thursday to finalize accounts and form. Irrigation Project Promises Climate Change in Cardston Area

The St Marys river irrigation plan near Cardston would carry water to a town site near the boundary and possibly to Lethbridge. It aims to alter regional weather by reducing high winds and shifting ranchers toward farming, with some urging relocation to Musleod district to avoid climate effects. Also noted: Joseph B Hinton 33 died of typhoid fever at Pincher Creek on February 90.
