The Medicine Hat News accuses the Gazette of reprinting a piece titled Should we breed or import thoroughbred stock without credit. The Gazette admits the lapse was accidental and unintentional and apologizes for the dishonest journalism claim.
The Assinaboia hotel, costing $40,000, stands three stories with a basement and steam heat. Owned and managed by H. H. Ross, it features billiards, bowling, fine baths and lavish furnishings. Described as the finest hotel between Winnipeg and the coast, the town of Medicine Hat is praised for the project.
The Ellicott Square Building in Buffalo New York spans a full block and reaches eight stories high. It houses offices and a men's club with a total 782 offices occupied averaging three people each. This implies about 2346 occupants, roughly twice the population of Macleod.
The Macleod post office announces new mail times effective this month. Niagara Falls N Y Feb 14 for the first time in 22 years the Niagara river from Lewiston to Youngstown is frozen over an ice jam formed yesterday and solid this morning. No reports of crossings yet. The river from the falls bay to Lake Ontario is a mass of ice except for the rapids. Thousands of sightseers travel to the scene from across the country.
A special Ottawa town council meeting discussed delegations report and a plan to subdivide the town square into building lots. Councillors Wood Barnes Nixon and Grier were present as Nixon gave notice to pursue subdivision and sale of unoccupied land. The council tabled selling vacant lots and directed petitions for a Macleod land office and public building oversight.
A quiet wedding joined Mable Nixon and J A Webb at the Nixon home on Wednesday evening. Rev Dickinson officiated as the bride wore a blue gown with Miss Ruby ONeil and D McLean as attendants. A large cheque for 1000 dollars from the groom accompanied numerous handsome gifts. The couple will reside in Rossland B C after visiting the bride’s parents until Monday morning.
A drunken intruder tried to force entry into Sgt. Damies residence last Monday night and threatened to batter down the door. He was subdued by the sergeant and appeared before Insp. J. P. Be gin on Tuesday, found guilty of drunkenness and disturbing the peace, fined a total of 12.50 dollars.
The U P Ry will run the first spring settlers excursion to the North West on March seventh with weekly departures every Tuesday through March and April. Inquiries pour in from Ontario and nationwide. the Ontario Pacific Railway has received thousands of inquiries and hundreds may travel from Huron Grey and Bruce counties.
Telegrams from Dallas report cattle and sheep losses across Texas due to a severe cold spell. Moore county suffers heavy cattle deaths, and the San Angelo region sees many dead sheep. Denver reports ranges across the west hit hard as feed runs short and snow blankets the ground.
The Western Stock Growers' Association secretary reports a further $600 from the Department of Agriculture North-West Government Regina for wolf bounties. Total government support since March 1 reaches 3,000 with 2,547 expended and 453 balance. Additional association funds of 764 used, bringing total expenditure to 3,311. Bounties list includes five, two, seven dollar government rates and eight dollar association rate for large female wolves.
For ten years Canada has sent samples of top cereals from the Ottawa Experimental Farm to farmers. This season a distribution of oats barley spring wheat field peas Indian corn and potatoes is offered to individuals who apply in person. Each applicant may receive one 3 pound sample by March 15 and should indicate preferred variety.
