Supreme Court Opens Sessions at Macleod With Adjourned Trials

The February sittings opened before Judge Sifton with a criminal list including Rex v Harris theft Rex v Hart attempted exert Rex v Vance indecent assault. Crown Prosecutor Trenholm Dickson sits. Key witnesses unavailable caused adjournment. Hart trial later proceeded to verdict Not Guilty. Court resumed Friday with remaining cases.

Grist Mill Committee Plans Local Milling Company

A Monday afternoon meeting of the Grist Mill Committee in the council chamber approved incorporating a milling company to be named Macleod Farmers Mill Elevator Limited. Capital set at 60000 dollars in 50 dollar shares with calls not exceeding 20 percent, payable at intervals of at least 30 days. E P McNeil tasked to take all necessary steps to complete incorporation.

Town Council Meets Amid Busy Session

The regular town council meeting chaired by Mayor Grady discussed last meeting minutes, many by laws approved, and various applications. Topics included a loan request for four fire extinguishers for the public school, Choral Society use of the town hall for weekly rehearsals, and a real estate agency proposal for selling town lots referred to next meeting.

Town Council Actions And Infrastructure Plans

The council set the cemetery improvements and fence extension and instructed the clerk to contact the Telephone Co about pole braces. Coun. Maclean will introduce a bylaw to appoint an agent for town lot sales at the next regular meeting, while Coun. Struthers extends his motion on town lot sales to the next meeting. Accounts paid include Beere 550, Ryan 2, Fider 5, Electric Light Co 43, Skelding 11.40, Scheer 2.50, Stockton 1.55.

Elocution Contest At Methodist Church Awards Medal

Five boys competed for a W C T U medal at a well attended social evening in the Methodist Church. Performances included recitations by John Black Adrian LaFrance and Ewart Jaffary a Scotch duet by Miss Underwood and A Callie and songs by Mrs Powell. Willoughby Bryan won the medal after judging by Mesdames Fawcett Whipple and Frank Wilson.

Police Veteran Dead After Long Service in Northwest

Percy Reginald Neale ex superintendant of the North West Mounted Police died at Winnipeg General Hospital after a illness last week at age 63. He joined the force in 1873 and served at Emerson Fort Macleod Battleford and Fort Macleod again before resigning in 1887. He later worked as a customs officer in Macleod before moving to Winnipeg. He was a prominent member of the A F and A M and his wife lives in Lethbridge.

Town of Macleod Seeks Amendment to Ordnance 1982 Act

Notice from Edward P. McNutt solicitor for the Town of Maclead states that in the drab session of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta an application will be made on behalf of the Municipality of Maclead for an Act by amendment to Ordinance Chapter 29 of 1982 to empower the town to construct purchase or manage waterworks sewers electric light and power works and telephony. The act would authorize contracting and borrowing up to twenty per cent of assessed property value and grant usual municipal powers for similar public works.
