Forbes Old Timers Chronicle Goldfields to Municipal Rise
Forbes early days recount a rush era under goldfields boom with Hutchinson detailing leaders like Brown and Grenfell, the rise of mining towns, bushrangers and police, the 1870 flood, first police magistrate W Farrand, and the birth of Forbes municipality in 1870 alongside bridge, water works, and railway developments shaping the town’s growth. The piece notes key figures in local politics and press, and reflects on the pioneers who built Forbes and its enduring legacy.
