Liquor act case tests bona fide traveller claim
At Forbes F Police Court on Tuesday Jack Davis pleaded not guilty to being found on the licensed Post Office Hotel premises on Sunday September 22. The case featured testimony by Sergeant Hanney and Constable Cullen about Davis with a glass of liquor and Davis claiming he was a traveller from Champsaur five miles away. Witnesses described the hotel setting and Richardson, the licensee, testified that the glass contained shandy. The magistrate discharged both charges after accepting Davis as a bona fide traveller and noted the possibility of reopening at the quarter sessions if required. The license transfer application from Richardson to Frederick Richardson was withdrawn.
