Fire damages two Forbes cottages in Harold Street
Early yesterday a fire engulfed two brick cottages in Harold Street Forbes, owned by A J Gunn and occupied by Mrs McQuillen and J Judd. The blaze started in McQuillen’s room, forcing removal of furnishings and causing partial collapse of roofs. insurance covered some losses but Judd and McQuillen face heavy costs. Fire brigade arrived at 4:43 am and battled flames amid difficulties from dense timber and parapet walls. both cottages likely must be demolished and rebuilt.
