The death occurred at Forbes District Hospital on Baturdey. Thomas Martin, age 18, of Barnardo, employed at Jemalong Partleg of the local cemetery, is named in the notice. R. G. Mathers officiated at the graveside.
The Forbes League annual meeting covers a difficult season with a debt of £51 to be overcome. President KE Speck left, Mer A Jones chaired, and secretary Les Martin read minutes. The annual report notes financial strain, management friction, and a push to redraw group boundaries to boost football centers.
Forbes officials led by Mayor H. K. Ford and Town Clerk D. P. Dempsey returned from Sydney after a successful deputation to secure the emergency relief scheme. The council will extend the program to end of March while awaiting start of subsidised works including King George V Park baths, beautification, Lake Forbes improvements, and water mains lining.
At a Fortes subbranch meeting of the Return ed Boldiers League a letter from Hon W M Hughes was received in reply to an invitation to perform the opening ceremony of the annual ball in about two months. The branch may ask Hughes again in ten weeks. A proposal suggested laying the memorial foundation at Victoria Park during the ball, with Hughes invited to attend both ceremonies.
Richard Brophy died yesterday at his Spring Street home in Forbes after a year with heart trouble. He was a former farmer at Carenhile who moved to Forbes 14 years ago. Survived by a widow and daughter Peggy, wife of Dr. McCann of Sydney. A generous church supporter who donated £400 for St Laurence's roof, funeral today at 4 pm to the local Roman Catholic cemetery with A H Williams & Co in charge.
Daniel Harold Isaac McMahon, 32, appeared before JP H L Pelham yesterday on a serious offence charge involving a 14 year old girl. He was remanded to March 23 with bail set at 30 and sureties of 50 or two of 40. The case notes he has a home and land, and had become involved with a widow.
At Forbes sub branch of the Returned Soldiers League a meeting discussed coronation of King George VI. and urged action to mark the event. A proposal for a children’s function, a fireworks display, and a flagpole setup at the School of Arts was floated with volunteers to help.
An informal Friday gathering of Returned Soldiers' group was chaired by Capt J J with about twenty members present. The meeting followed a meal and included general uelon leading a brief local update in a low key, friendly setting.
