Outside Council's Province on Wheat Scheme

The Forbes branch of the Farmers and Settlers Association discussed Mr W J Scully’s wheat plan for Commerce. A resolution approved the scheme with guarantees, noting approval depended on Government endorsement and adjustments to per bushel guarantees, pool balances, and licensing concerns. The meeting elected to send a letter to the Minister for Commerce outlining terms and the need for cooperative pooling and fair payments.

Forbes ap pointments spark debate over returned soldiers

At Forbes Municipal Council last Thursday the Returned Soldiers League challenged the appointment of Ald. Gunn and Mr W H L Hancock as clerks at the Small Arms Feeder Factory, arguing it bypassed returned men. The council ruled the appointments were outside its province and approved deferring further investigation as Ald. Tribolet urged disqualification of Gunn.

Foriea F and 5 Association Meeting Notes

Attendees at the monthly Foriea F and 5 Association meeting included W. H Thomas Jun president A. E Clarke secretary E. KR Thomas A. Matiisir SF Geene C A Eaton HF Sweeney Gill Griffith Ledge and F Row. The secretary thanked the Chamber of Commerce for inviting members to Chamber meetings to discuss farming intern motions. The secretary cited potential savings for farmers on insurance and gas production through the Association and noted Field's agitation influenced the effort. Decisions included writing to the national stationmaster to prevent train disruption by breaking up the train on arrival and departure.

Parkes Band Raises Funds for Forbes Hospital

Members of the Parkes Town Band under conductor B. Meewhon played around the town to raise money for Forbes Hospital. A goodly crowd gathered in the Portes District for the concert held in the Victoria Watt area. The band’s gesture drew praise from locals and officials.

Deductions From Pay Envelopes Begin August First

The Federal Treasurer Mr Chifley announced deductions from pay envelopes under the uniform income tax plan will begin on August 1. It is expected 9000 officers of late regation departments will be transferred to the Commonwealth service of July 1 for the duration of the scheme. Press rights of Bhote afferds will be preserved State terminal officers required by the Commonwealth will be either uninaferred or called up for war service. Many girls from these departments will join women’s War Union such as the WANS the WaAAA S and the Woren Army.
