Wheat price hits Victorian weekly record in Melbourne
A Melbourne report shows wheat sold last Monday at 2s 2d per bushel, the season’s record price with 2s 11d bids offered by foresty and millers. The Lindsey Waller Wheat Company notes rising world prices due to tight supplies in the Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere shortages. Argentina and Australia led as the cheapest exporters, but autumn crops may restrain supply. Argentina’s next year crop could top 226,400,000 bushels, while global shipments from August face questions about meeting the cereal year demand amid harvests in late year. Short crops in the Northern Hemisphere hint that import needs may rise by about 0.75 million bushels weekly.
