Judge directs jury to acquit McMahon in Forbes carnally know case

At Forbes Quarter Sessions on the charge of carnally knowing a girl under 16, Daniel Harold McMahon was found not guilty after the judge ruled the girl could not be sworn. The jury was directed to acquit and McMahon was formally discharged. The trial opened with Defence and Crown arguments and concerns over corroboration and the victim’s ability to understand an oath.

South Forbes Fire Destroys Front of Stone Building

A fire at South Forbes partly destroyed the front stone portion of a former home once owned by Edgar Bush. The blaze, reported near 4:18 am, was contained with the back weatherboard section remaining intact. The property, insured by Queemaland Insurance Co, had been emptied the day before by the War family of Sir Walter Neilson who planned to move in furniture.
