Frederick Arthur Hudson alias Frank Wilkinson appeared on remand at Forbes Police Court to answer four charges. He was committed for trial on two counts to Forbes Quarter Sessions for February 26, with three months and one month sentences to run concurrently. He pleaded to stealing a bicycle valued at about 200 and to possessing a watch believed stolen. Police described him as a repeat offender with a long conviction history. He admitted escaping from Emu Plains prison farm and described a long road journey after crossing the Blue Mountains. He was also charged with indecency against a nine year old girl at Caransbel, committed for trial.
In Forbes Police Court on Tuesday before Mr M 4 Ryan P M the case centered on a cash register valued at £20 linked to George Anthony and A H Williams. Plaintiffs alleged a bill of sale and storage charges tied to goods once held by Williams, with ongoing disputes over ownership, storage payments, and the right to reclaim the register. Various witnesses described prior ownership and the sale ad, storage terms, and attempted recovery. The matter focused on the plaintiff’s claim to the register under the bill of sale and Williams’s storage charges and sale actions.
At a Forbes Municipal Council meeting in North Hill officials discussed accusations that a former mayor’s gas meter had been tampered with and scant coins found. Relief workers employed by Jemalong Shire Council, especially those at the Gunningbland quarry, are angered by remarks made by engineer A J Booth at the January council meeting. About 50 personal friends attended a farewell for Mr Beauchamp Bun Tyrrell at the W.A. room in Forbes last Wednesday. Tyrrell, three years as security officer at the Bank of A.G.W., moves to the central Inspector's office. The gathering featured bridge and other games, community singing, and warm thanks from Mr W C Brooke to Tyrrell and his wife. Tyrrell praised bank manager W H Nott and thanked Alan Sharp for organizing the function.
In Hansard excerpt Mr Main discusses wheat grading standards. He concedes fixing the standard is not entirely satisfactory and notes producers and millers have differing views. He says the matter will be reviewed and a notice will be issued before the next fixation of the standard.
The weekly band recital will be held at 4.30 p.m. next Sunday in Victoria Park featuring Old Hume overture Arcadia Son era and selections including God Save the King.
