Town Weir May Be Allowed to Totally Break Up
Forbes Municipal Council discussed the town water supply risk from the partial failure of the Jog weir. A minister noted the water level remains within pump suction range, making total destruction unlikely to threaten supply. Cowra Becomes Key Link in Regional Electricity Growth
Cowra has emerged as an important development in electricity use since 1930s. In 18 years demand rose from 49,009 units to 500,080 units as South Electricity Supply expanded capacity. A new coal fired station at Cowra was established using a turbine from Brisbane, boosting regional supply toward Port Kembla and Sydney via the Lachlan Valley, with Wyangala Dam preventing rationing.
