The report of secretary Mrs Dwyer to the Hugowra CWA outlines a year of strong participation. Members contributed to the Baby Clinic, health drives, and Red Cross efforts, with 62 members and numerous events noted. The year closed with thanks to officers and a resignation decision for the secretary post.
The G.W.I.A held a year end meeting at the School of Arts on Saturday December 11 with Mrs. Kirby welcoming Mire Beddle of Forbes branch as guest. Officers were elected and reports praised war work measures including camouflage mottling and the baby clinic while funds supported camp comforts the Red Cross and Ambulance.
Several residents return home for Christmas leave while others depart for holidays. Cpl C L Douglas of the RAAF returns to station. Mr Dave McCarron elected Boree Shire president. Various families travel to Sydney and Oberon Street for visits and holidays. Christmas Mass set for Cudal and Marra. Community updates include births, illnesses, and visits in the district.
The annual C W A meeting was held December 7 at Hall with remarks on protecting office bearers and upcoming plans for March 1944. Visitors included Mrs MacSmith and Mrs Osborne from Communar, Miss O Neill and Mrs Finlay. Mrs MacSmith received welcome words and shoulder sprays from Mrs Dotties. An address on wartime duties highlighted emergency housing needs and continuing Red Cross work. General items note P W O Neill home on leave from New Gillview and Miss O Neill returning from Canberra for war work. Harvest season shows wheat and oats yielding well as work continues.
The Younger Set hosted four Cowra troops at a Tuesday night dance. A collection by local ladies funded expenses, with £1 donated to the Red Cross after costs. Gergt. Ray Smith led cheers for the troops and an annual meeting followed with officer elections. Chew won the hamper and shared it with Mrs. Dart for the hospital and children.
The fund for a new ambulance waggon for Eigowra received several donations from multiple contributors. Names include EH Clements Claude Price NW Moore F Wheeldon W McClintock F Cheney E Dunn W P Ryan and others with amounts ranging from small coins to £10. The Nash donation correction is noted as £10 for Mash Cudal J.C. Circle Complimented.
Parish notices list Advent Sunday services at Elgowra Matthews and Gilgies with Holy Communion at 7.30 am and 1 am Holy Communion at Mackay Creek Church. Evensong and sermon are also scheduled with a Sunday School session and a general offering of $20 noted.
A Gift Evening is to be tendered to Leila Rawsthorne at the School of Arte on Wednesday 22 December. The event also features a Ladies Basket and Gent's donation as part of the programme.
Visiting optician Mr D J Bone from Orange will visit ECCOWRA on Monday December 13 consulting at Netch's Central Hotel after noon. He will also be in Canowindra that day morning only. Appointments can be arranged through the Eugowra agency.
