Regional conference at Forbes drew delegates from Parkes Grenfell and surrounding towns. Wet roads kept some away yet the meeting resolved to expand local medical aid for crippled and sick children, with officers elected and plans for surveys and fundraising discussed.
Occupiers of land growing wheat in the Forbes pallee patrol are asked to provide wheat statistic returns to the officer in charge of Pallee Forbes as soon as possible. Those who did not receive Form Schedule No 8 may obtain one from Forbes Police Station. All wheat growers must return the form to enable bounty checks.
In New South Wales the new government under Premier Mair faces an early test from the Spooner faction within days. Mair, elected leader by 20 votes to four, will take premier and treasurer posts, with a cabinet including Broxner and Gollan. Spooner supporters protested at Government House before the exodus of seven party members.
A Grenfell fire at the Wirega sheep stud property of Mr Bruce Bembrick caused damage estimated at £4600. Portions of the destroyed property were insured. The contents included hay and piles of cared items. The cause of the blaze cannot be ascertained.
Dr Monet Barron, chair of the Far West Connell, at Forbes regional conference, described support for the Far West Children's Health Scheme as almost a religion among western people. A boy questioned about his religion at the Manly Home answered, “I am on Far Wester,” provoking laughter.
Forbes Aero Club moves to hold a formal opening for the new aerodrome with a pageant and a dance. The council backs the idea but will not commit funds. ministers and aero clubs are urged to participate with goodwill tours and aerial displays. Local military units may join in a tattoo and contests.
At Forbes Aero Club meeting on Friday night a proposal to buy a training and hire plane was discussed. Basil Clifton outlined funding via debentures and £10 shares, proposing a Moth Minor costing about £450 with self starter and minimal rigging. Insurance costs were noted as high by the Royal Aero Club of NSW, though the club could arrange its own cover. subsidies for trainee pilots may come from Defence authorities, boosting revenue. Clifton aimed to raise about £1,100 and suggested pooling funds from multiple towns. members urged him to pursue insurers and more details before proceeding.
Canowindra beat Molong 40 to 7 in the Johnnie Walker Cup clash on Braclay. Canowindra led 8-6 at halftime, then sealed it in the second session. T. Clyburn scored three tries, with P Thurrell P Clyburn Hodge Stubbs and Ritchie also among scorers. Referee was Mr W Lawrener of Burmedman.
Thirty Forbes light horsemen were encamped over the weekend for a four day parade at Parkes led by Sixth Light Horse Headquarters. The parades will in future be held at intervals with officers and troopers sleeping in the pavilion but attending town for meals.
