Defeat of a French attack at Lefinghen and siege actions
Amid canal fighting near Lefinghen, British forces repelled a French assault. The enemy aimed to cut supply lines, but Erle’s troops intrenched forts and repelled attempts to breach the camp. Dutch and French detachments, led by Captain Clairé and others, suffered casualties while a French general was captured. The firing and inundation impeded the invaders, who were forced to retreat and resume attempts to threaten the position.
