Besieged Surrenders as Marlborough Forces Gain Control
From the camp before Aire on November 10 reports say the besieged agreed to capitulate after exchanges of officers. The town gate and Fort St. Francis fell to the Allies, the garrison will march to St Omer, and French authorities plan winter quarters and repairs. Gouverneur Naffau, son of the late marshal, is named governor of Aire as finances strain. The king orders powder sent to Bayonne for transport to Philip’s army, while frontier governors report to Paris on the state of their garrisons.
