Rebels encamp near Stirling after crossing Forth River
A report states the Earl of Mar and the rebel force decamped from Terth to cross the Forth above Stirling. Rebels at Leith have plundered vaults and seized meat and other provisions. They removed cannon from harbour ships and fortified the northwest of the town where the former citadel stood. The Duke of Argyle attacked to dislodge them, then withdrew to bring up artillery as ships shell the rebels. Rumors say the rebels refused honourable terms and planned to move toward Seaton-House after a night march from Leith. Last night Evans and Wightman’s regiments arrived from Ireland, and other details note stock prices and local appointments.
