Festive pageant marks mayoral relay through Ely
The city welcomed Clement Sexton Ely with streets decked in green garlands and crowds at the bridge fort as masrice dancers and maids in white led the procession. Bells, music, and a town hall ball followed a grand dinner and a public collation. A royal reception praised the mayor and included gifts, speeches, and widespread revelry.
