Died and notices from 1719 parish letters and auctions
Last Monday died Wikiam Jones Esq chief clerk in Mr Craggs's Office. Hugh Fortescue Esq, formerly MP, is dead. On Thursday the Sons of the Clergy held their Annual Feast at Merchant-Taylors Hall with stewards collecting upward of 200 pounds. Nicholas Vincent Esq was elected MP for Fowey Borough, Cornwall, in place of the deceased Henry Vincent Esq. Lottery and stock prices are listed, with South Sea stock at 126 1/2 and Bank at 149 1/2. The Stewards of the Sons of the Clergy feast published accounts showing 2761 pounds 8 shillings 6 pence distributed to support the children of poor clergymen, including payments to apothecaries, booksellers, mantua makers, and various tradesmen. An advertisement defends James Torr against a York Antiquities claim. Also advertised are road books, Dooms-Day poem editions, and a medical elixir claim for consumptions.
