Pirates and Trials at Cape Coast Castle
A Kingston era report details Captain Ogle and Captain Mungo Heardman presiding over pirate trials at Cape Coast Castle. Of 160 prisoners, 74 were sentenced to death, 52 executed, 20 reprieved or sent to mines for seven years, 17 returned for insufficient evidence, and eight hung in chains on prominent Cape Coast hills.
