A September 22, 1992 reminder reprints an archaic London Gazettes directive about halving notes or drafts for security in mail. It warns Post Office clerks to deliver warrants to money books clerks and to send halves at separate times, with careful receipt handling and explicit cut lines on notes.
A social notice lists nobility and peers including Duke of Norfolk Earl of Derby and Earl Fitzwilliam with gentlemen guests. Tickets priced seven shillings four pence are available from the Shakespeare, with MES FOX chairing and stewards named.
London Tavern September 27 1792 A meeting of subscribers to relieve the suffering French clergy refugees in England. The Lord Mayor chairs as a committee of direction is chosen including Smith Payne Co Richard Fuller and Co Birch Carr Glyn and Co. Funds to aid the present necessities and any surplus to public charities per committee plan.
A Paris dispatch reports the National Assembly completes its term and dissolves, as the National Convention rises at the Tuilleries to begin governing France. Factional strife spreads across Orleans, Lyons, Rouen, and other cities with royalist and insurgent actions confronting republican reforms.
A morning session sees M Francois urging the National Assembly to end its sittings. The National Convention is thanked for relinquishing power, and the assembly proclaims the nation’s voice for liberty and equality under the law. The address declares the people have chosen you to establish foundations that cannot be taken.
The National Convention reads the process verbal for its first sitting with 371 Deputies present. Petion is named President. Vergniaud Condorcet Briffat Rabaul and La Source are elected secretaries. Deputies push for sovereignty of the people, a constitutional plan, and death penalties for assaults on sovereignty. Danton resigns as Minister of Justice and pledges to serve as a representative of the people.
