Militia Bill Pending in House of Commons

Supplemental militia bill directs returns of fit men and ballot selection for substitutes. It requires substitutes from same parish or adjacent areas, approved by deputy lieutenants, to serve as private militia for the term of the person they replace. Balloted individuals not to be reballotted under the act, except Quakers are excluded.

Ireland Bill Exempts Armed Associations From Military Discipline

Clause in the Bill raising and embodying armed associations states enrollees and those receiving pay are not subject to military discipline or to mutiny and desertion laws. Drowned Private Thomas Moore Among Thames Drownings

Reading Oct 22 reports Private Thomas Moore of the 16th Light Dragoons drowned after tumbling from a skiff near Healey upon Thames. Separately a man faced charges of coining and uttering counterfeit silver. Susanna Garnett, wife of Solomon Garnett, was committed for trial for stealing a bank note found in her home. Footpad Robbery Charge Against William Missling

Yesterday William Missling was charged with robbery on the person of Mr. J. Chetham. The testimony states three men attacked them between Sadler's Wells and Pentonville, two with pistols, Missling held as suspect of other county pad robberies. The prisoner was taken in Penton Street and bound over to prosecute, to be brought up again Thursday.
