Mainwaring and Co announce sale of Irish and English state lottery tickets and legally stamped shares. They will attend to letters postpaid for schemes, noting ticket and share prices fluctuate with market, and urge punctual, equitable service.
The Irish House of Commons on Tuesday read the Order of the Day for the Refolu floix of the Committee considering the Lord Lieutenant's Speech. Mr Vanideleur expressed astonishment at the large sum’s utility lacking trial or experience. The Chancellor of the Exchequer argued the Treasury would gain more than before, citing recent useful registrations. The House then formed a Committee on the Bill for encouraging and disciplining arms, with a lengthy debate led by Pelham Stewart Maxwell Arendall Waite and others. The House adjourned to Tuesday next.
Thomas Irving, Inspector General of Imports and Exports, notes omissions in India and China import values for three periods to preserve comparative view. He reports large excess exports in Christmas quarter driven by West Indian products, with British manufactures and overall foreign trade totals for half years ending July 1796.
Supplemental militia bill directs returns of fit men and ballot selection for substitutes. It requires substitutes from same parish or adjacent areas, approved by deputy lieutenants, to serve as private militia for the term of the person they replace. Balloted individuals not to be reballotted under the act, except Quakers are excluded.
Clause in the Bill raising and embodying armed associations states enrollees and those receiving pay are not subject to military discipline or to mutiny and desertion laws. A recent robbery near Barnes Common involved Colonel Fullarton, who had his medal and watch returned via a parcel from London to Roehampton after directing the thief.
Reading Oct 22 reports Private Thomas Moore of the 16th Light Dragoons drowned after tumbling from a skiff near Healey upon Thames. He survived over three minutes in water with no signs of life despite faculty efforts. Also noted is a North Shields yard fire at Mawman boat-builder destroying most stock, insured value low.
A sisterhood member assaulted the plaintiff at Coverit garden Theatre. After a writt en paper to the Magistrate, warrants were discharged. Separately a man faced charges of coining and uttering counterfeit silver. Susanna Garnett, wife of Solomon Garnett, was committed for trial for stealing a bank note found in her home. Solomon Garnett was discharged. The case details span post office, banking, and theft elements with multiple locales.
Yesterday William Missling was charged with robbery on the person of Mr. J. Chetham. The testimony states three men attacked them between Sadler's Wells and Pentonville, two with pistols, Missling held as suspect of other county pad robberies. The prisoner was taken in Penton Street and bound over to prosecute, to be brought up again Thursday.
