The Postmaster-General urges splitting bearer notes or drafts in half and mailing them separately. It instructs receiving houses to verify halves upon return, and to hand over valuables like gold and rings to proper clerks. The notice, dated February 9, 1782, outlines procedures for secure transmission.

From fresh India voyage reports it seems the Fourts fate remains unknown and the Centaur loss traced to a rudder failure. Captain Jysterrel and twelve men escaped in a boat to reach the Azores or western lands. The rudder accident left the Centaur adrift and unable to steer.
A long account details multiple ships lost or driven off course after rudder failure in storms. It notes how ships like the Centaur, Hector, Rambites, and others struggled to steer, foundered near the Azores or Newfoundland, and that many crews perished or were rescued. It cites various Lloyds reports from 1782 to 1791 and recalls other vessels with missing status and extraordinary survivals aided by fortuitous events.
At Stirbitch fair a Wool dealers meeting chose John Start jun of Halstead to judge a contested claim between Meff Bankarts and Thomas Raunsley regarding hundred tods of wether fleeces. Start ruled Lincolnshire wool superior for depth of staple colour and hair richness, despite previous Leicestershire usage.
The patentee announces removal of the Violet Soap manufactory from Lambeth Walk to a chemical laboratory at Surrey Lodge and will sell from Office No 102 Bank Buildings and a Bloomsbury Square office opening on the 26th of the month. Counterfeit warnings accompany each package with a bill of directions.
