A Common Council gathered in Condon on November 26 1792 resolved unanimously to thank Sir James Sanderson Lord Mayor for his timely caution preventing disturbances during public political debate. The court pledged full support to enforce His Majesty's gracious Proclamation and maintain order.
The Common Council in the Guildhall of the City of London on November 29, 1792 thanks Sir John Shopekins late Lord Mayor for punctuality diligence and faithful discharge of duties including public justice administration access to citizens, regulating bread prices, and promoting prosperity of the metropolis.
In Westminster Hall on November 22 a rule to show cause why an information against Mr Spooner for sending a challenge should not be exhibited was discharged. A dispute over wheat between neighbors led to heated words including a challenge phrase about meeting “like a gentleman” at nine. The court refused the rule, and the information was not pursued.
The Attorney General obtained a writ of habeas corpus to move two prisoners from Yarmouth gaol to Norwich gaol. The application rested on their confinement for a riot in Yarmouth gaol and fear they were connected with outsiders who might assist an escape.
The court held that an improperly arrested debtor could still be jailed by honest creditors if no collusion existed with the arresting party. Justice Buller recalled a cafe case where arrests were staged for debt, but ruled that genuine creditors acting in good faith could proceed, distinguishing it from the present case. The term end extended the session, with little public interest in most matters.
The case before Mr Justice Buller and a common jury involved Marywood Clarke. The plaintiff sued the defendant for 321 on a bill of exchange but the action failed as the face of the instrument appeared to be a promissory note and the plaintiff was non suited.
