Bankrupt Petition Raises Set Off Question for Mercantile World

In a bankruptcy hearing involving Mr Hartrey and Livesey and Co a dispute over five guinea notes and bills arose. The court examined whether mutual debts under the Acts of Parliament could offset the claims of Hartley’s assignees against Livesey and Co. and ordered a detailed inquiry into whether Hartley acted as Livesey and Co’s agent before their failure.
