Ireland Dublin Tradesman Duped By Copper Plate Bills

In Dublin a few tradesmen adopt copper plate shop bills printed on bank post paper with house numbers in white to mimic bank notes. A North King Street grocer, rich but unskilled, was cheated of a significant sum by a polished impostor who used counterfeit looking notes and delayed payments to obtain wine and groceries. The fraud involved a watchmaker’s bill and a staged rush to have goods sent to an inn, with police waiting the next day to recover.
