Strouding in the King's Courts. penalties laid bare

Mr Justice Buachstone explains that contempts in the King's Palaces and Courts of Justice carry severe penalties. Historical law punished fighting in royal spaces with death, later replaced by forfeiture, imprisonment for life, and the loss of the offender’s right hand for striking in Westminster halls and allegates. Even nonviolent acts such as a shake, drawing a weapon, or restraining a prisoner in court uphold grave penalties, including loss of limbs and perpetual imprisonment.
