Fragmentary records show a heated House debate on dissolving Parliament and pursuing the Legislative Union. Speakers include Mr. Ponsonby Sir Henry Cavendish and Mr. Moore arguing for and against the motion amid warnings of constitutional peril.
The House moved to a Committee on the Union topic focusing on identifying the Protestant Church of Ireland with England. AResolution urged united discipline of churches. opposition argued it would subvert Protestant ascendancy and expand English synod influence. The motion passed, then the panel adjourned with further discussion to follow.
The house debated small motions and Sir John Parnell spoke at length. The third reading of the Rebellion Bill followed, with the title objected to but time amended. The bill passed its third reading and was ordered to the committee. The session adjourned at half past one Friday morning.
On march 8 the subject was executed by court martial in Wexford for the murder of his master on the bridge. As he stood on the gallows he confessed to Joshua Nex, High Sheriff, and several gentlemen that those who aided him were liable for the act. He stated that some believed it not a sin to kill his master. He named two priests, Father Murpin and Father Ned Red.
A fragmentary inflammatory note was found in Odiham after a fire that consumed Sir Thomas St. John Mildmay's barns and outbuildings. The letter swears vengeance on those who withhold corn and threatens the “Damé Eternal Fire Brands” against the villains of farmers blamed for famine.
