A letter to the Evening Mail laments tax burdens and social excess, urging Christian moderation and domestic reform. It targets wives, daughters, and tradesmen, calling for soberer spending, reduced luxury, and daily Scripture study to strengthen family life and national resilience against perceived perils.
In Dublin House of Commons a committee for the press liberty bill was discussed amid strong opposition. Mr Tighe attacked the measure while the Attorney General defended it citing slanders in the press and the need to bind printers to responsibility. Amendments lowered the required security to five hundred pounds and the bill was reported with that change.
Monday's House session stretched to past five am as Sir L Parsons defended parliamentary duties and Ireland's state. He argued the United Irishmen acted on counteraction and blamed natural justice for assassinations, while supporting conciliation toward Catholic emancipation and reform despite deeming it a minor feather. He moved for a Committee of the Whole House to examine causes of public discontents and the remedies adopted.
Marcus Tn Dublin reports that Arthur O Connor publisher of the Pres was seized at Margate while attempting to flee to France with Quigley and Alderman Alexander. Authorities seized seditious papers and ball cartridges as magistrates pursued evidence. Several workmen were taken questioned and later released.
