Bath on February 25 1796 records a farewell note praising a departed friend. The message speaks of the nobleness of his nature and hopes his life serves as atonement for a single crime, offering comfort to affianced friends and relatives that he died loved and esteemed by all who knew him.
A letter to the conductor laments publicans burdened by pots control and opposes a Parliament bill to ban sending out porter in pots. The writer, a retired publican, argues the measure harms customers and warns lawmakers against curbing small business tricks, urging practical industry instead of overreach. He notes many publicans are respectable and argues the bill would lazy the trade and promote speculation.
The trial of Andrew Glathan and others for conspiring to murder John Hanlen, a private in the Royal Irish Regiment, to deter him from testifying, concluded with ten found guilty of high treason. Three defendants remain in custody as more indictments are prepared. Sentences include execution on March 12.
A late 18th or early 19th century advertisement urges use of Dr Brodum's Botanical Syrup as a purifier of the blood and remedy for internal complaints. It cites physician endorsement, lists locations and book sellers, and promises health benefits for families and offspring through external and internal remedies.

A Wednesday morning fire at Axminster destroyed about 18 dwellings and a Methodist Meeting House, likely started at a blacksmith. If the wind had not been north many houses would have burned, as most were thatched. Some residents removed timber from burning houses and stored it, causing further fires the next day and the loss of four cottages. No lives were lost, but homes and furniture losses are serious.
In the House of Commons Fea. 2g the Attorney General's Bill to prevent conspiracies was debated. Mr Grattan, absent earlier, proposed reopening objections and moved recommittal to allow further amendments. The motion failed as the house carried the negative after a renewed discussion of the bill's principles.
A petition from the Society of Watermen Wherrymen and Lightermen along the Thames argues the Docks Bill would deprive 10,000 workers and their families of livelihoods. It notes prior acts directing lordly Sunday earnings to aid widows and aged workers, and warns apprentice numbers and naval service losses would worsen if the bill passes.
Yesterday Mr Niewotas Car of Bembroke Esilege and Mr Joan Geduce of New Callepe were admitted to the degree of M Jana. Also TER SLEEMAN of Baliok Colleges appears in the ceremony for the degree of B AL.
In Southampton a March Guild Hall gathering with many gentlemen discussed a canal project linking London ports and Southampton. A plan to connect the Itchin Navigation at Winchester to the Basingstoke Canal was presented, with over 11,000 subscriptions pledged.
At Winchester Assizes Judge Perrayn and Buicer presided as twenty two prisoners faced trial for various crimes. Four Black men Summo Rabon Ravoo and Sarax were condemned to death for murdering officer M ér eme at Portchester Castle. Other prisoners faced transportation or reprieve for theft, burglary or escaping from the Lion Convict Hulk. Carter and four others condemned to execution next Monday. Dight and Prige to die Saturday. rest sent to Salisbury after reprieves.
On Tuesday Thomas Day was condemned for robbing Anne Harwick but received a death sentence commuted before the judge departed town. The proceedings occurred at the Northampton offices after the affair concluded.
