Architect Rupert Avant dies at Albemarle Street

My ADAM on Saturday last at two o clock died at his house in Albemarle-street Rupert Avant Esq Architect Fellow of the Royal and Antiquarian Societies of London and Edinburgh. His death was caused by the bursting of a blood vessel. The many elegant buildings erected in fashionable London and other places by Mr Avam will remain monuments of his skill and character. Mrs Avam, after his return from Italy, was appointed Architect to his Majesty in 1762, resigning in 1768 to serve as representative for Kinross. The arts lose two of their ornaments, Sir Josaua Reyonoxes and Mr Avam, with Mrs Avam having changed architecture and spread design into many manufactories. The loss is deeply felt as universities and public works in Edinburgh and Glasgow rise from his plans and direction.
