Crude Parisian Surgical Journal notices and trials
A 1793 update lists a medical journal with plates and prices, plus trials in London of theft and forgery. Several cases include a watch theft, a black gelding theft, privately stealing, and a household burglary with varying verdicts. Trials cover misappropriated fees between surveyors and doctors in Lyons and London.
FIRST DAY BEFORE JUDGE BULLER IN OLD-BAILLY
George Richards faced indictment for stealing a diamond ring from Messrs Jeffreys and Jones. A ring seen earlier by Jones’s workmen and sworn by a goldsmith as having been purchased by Williams tied the case to plausible ownership. Witnesses placed the ring in the Adam and Eve pub with Wheeler named as the seller, while Richards’s defense claimed the item was public room exposure. The jury found Richards not guilty on the principal charge, as the prosecution noted inconsistencies in his identification. Panter faced separate indictment for stealing a silver watch from tailor Ri Power.
