Ramsgate Harbour Rates Set At Special General Meeting

Ramsgate Harbour Trustees announce in the London Gazette the rates and duties to be levied on ships and cargoes from June 18 1792. For vessels of 29 to 300 tons threepence per ton. above 300 tons one penny per ton. Coal and stone charges set at one penny halfpenny per chaldron. William Evans secretary.

Political anecdote on Berwick election freemen sea landing

A British political anecdote recalls non-resident freemen from London being transported to Berwick-upon-Tweed before the 1768 election. Naval commander paid by candidate Mr Taylor landed the freemen in Norway for 400 pounds, enabling Taylor and Lord Deraval to occupy seats with no further expense.

Hartley Charity Case In Chancery Through Decay Of Knights
