Trials at Hants Assizes Show Death Sentences Passed

Judges Heath and Perryn opened the Hants assizes with four prisoners. Samuel Singaskin and James Lawvess received death sentences for theft and related crimes. Robbery near Salisbury by masked highwayman

On Friday evening about six o clock three travelling ladies were stopped near Popham Lane by a man in a smock frock with a cloth over his face and pistols. He stole nine guineas, their gold watches and ear rings worth about one hundred pounds. He rode out of Popham Wood and tied his horse at a gate during the act. He has reportedly visited the area for several weeks.
