Damages Suit Over Failed Secret Marriage Dismissed
A former lover sued the husband for damages after the lady backed out of a secret marriage despite ardent letters and promises. The Lord Ordinary dismissed the action, ruling a woman may recede before the ceremony and that pursuing damages for an immoral act against a reluctant, friend-restrained marriage is improper.
Mayor Sparling of Liverpool Faces Discharged Rule
In Monbay on July 5 a Rule in the Court of King's Bench sought a Criminal Information against John Sparling Esq Mayor of Liverpool for alleged neglect of duty as Chief Magistrate. Lord Kenyon ruled the Rule should be discharged without costs, finding culpability but not enough to grant a Criminal Information.

In the Court of Session Lord Eskgrove as Ordinary in the Outer House decided a curious case involving a young lady who betrothed herself to a merchant in Aberdeen, with a wedding day set, a house taken and furnished, and servants hired.

The Neptune Sunk by Greenland Ice Fields
