Royal Drawing Room at St James's With Many Nobles Absent

Yesterday a grand Drawing-room at St James's drew only a small number of principal nobles and gentry, while many reserved new court dresses. The event featured appearances by the Prince of Wales, the Duke of York, and others, followed by a ball and illuminations in London. The outfits of the royal ladies showcased rich embroidery and Turkish silk, with the Princess Augusta and Princess Elizabeth among those noted for their attire. The evening included minuets and country dances, but attendance for dancing was light and the prince declined to participate in country dances. The ball closed shortly after ten reaching a quiet end to the royal hospitality.
