The Earl of Westmeath moved for the Proprietor Printer and Publisher of The Press to be taken into custody and brought to the Bar of the House to answer for a Dublin newspaper libel against Lord Glentworth. The Lords agreed and an order was made to arrest them.
Sir J Blaguirre urges a royal proclamation to reward apprehension of officers who assaulted Mrs Uniacke's maid. The motion fails after opposition citing executive overreach. Other debates consider an incomes tax on long‑term residents amid fears of strain between kingdoms.
In a heated session Sir L Parfins announced a Wednesday inquiry into the state of the nation while the motion split the chamber. Supporters included Count Dobbs and Mr Martin totaling 49 votes against the motion with numerous notable opponents such as St. George Daly Stamey Blaquiere Lodge Morres O'Donnell Tighe Knox Ohera and Lord C Fitzgerald.
Maud Y Donaldson sues after an assault on the plaintiff during a dispute over rooms in the Portsmouth mail coach. Chief Justice Eyre notes an assault has been proven and jurors award damages of 201. Eyre comments that both parties’ language suited the outside more than the inside of such a conveyance.
In Preston a Friday night or Saturday dawn murder occurred during a tavern quarrel. Kay and Sewell were attacked by Maurice and Moss after Sewell brandished a knife. Maurice died. Sewell killed Kay in self-defense. Sewell was jailed, Maurice’s coroner’s inquest returned murder verdict against Sewell but Ray forgave him, and Sewell awaits trial at Lancaster Castle.
