Dublin Press libel provokes Lords custody order

The Earl of Westmeath moved for the Proprietor Printer and Publisher of The Press to be taken into custody and brought to the Bar of the House to answer for a Dublin newspaper libel against Lord Glentworth. The Lords agreed and an order was made to arrest them.

Unprecedented Preston murder after late-night quarrel

In Preston a Friday night or Saturday dawn murder occurred during a tavern quarrel. Kay and Sewell were attacked by Maurice and Moss after Sewell brandished a knife. Maurice died. Sewell killed Kay in self-defense. Sewell was jailed, Maurice’s coroner’s inquest returned murder verdict against Sewell but Ray forgave him, and Sewell awaits trial at Lancaster Castle.
